JeM militant involved in Kandahar hijacking arrested

Top Jaish-e-Mohammed militant Nannu Mia also known as Belal Mandol has been arrested by Bangladesh police.He has reportedly admitted to have played a key role in the hijacking of an Indian Airlines plane in 1999 to Kandahar.Nannu was among the five operatives of the Pakistan- based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed, including its Pakistani coordinator in Bangladesh Rezwan Ahmed, nabbed in Dhaka by the elite Rapid Action Battalion early on Sunday. According to officials, Rezwan was also believed to be a recruiter for operations in India.The arrest of Nannu, who claims to be a native of north Bangladeshi town Shylet, along with Rezwan Ahmed is being considered as a major success by the local authorities. The 'Daily Star' reported that Nannu had admitted he had a role in the hijack of the Indian Airlines plane on a flight to Delhi from Kathmandu on December 24, 1999. It also said that after serving out 10 years in Guwahati prison in an anti-state case in India he recently fled back home. The Indian authorities had to set free three militant leaders including JeM supremo Moulana Masood Azhar in exchange for passengers taken hostage.
