Internationally acclaimed poet and literateur, Jayanta Mahapatra has expressed his desire to return Padma Shri as a mark of dissent against growing moral asymmetry in the country. The octogenarian poet, who was presented Padma Shri in 2009, told PTI that he has already sent a letter to the President expressing his desire to return the award.<br/><br/>He said that in the letter he has written that he feels ethically impugned by not raising voice in dissent against the growing moral asymmetry visible in the country. Mr Mahapatra also said that the step does not point at any form of dishonour for the country.
