Jayalalithaa writes to PM, refuses Lankan players participation in IPL matches in Lanka

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has written to Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh to advise the BCCI to prevail upon the IPL organisers, not to allow Sri Lankan players, officials, umpires and support staff to take part in the tournament in Tamil Nadu. Ms. Jayalalithaa has said that the State Government will permit IPL matches only if the organisers provide an undertaking that no Sri Lankan players, umpires, officials or support staff would participate in these matches.In her letter, Ms. Jayalalithaa has referred to the recent continuous agitations in Tamil Nadu, during the debate in the United Nations Human Rights Convention, revealing the great anger and anguish amongs the people of the state with regard to this highly emotive issue. Citing the mass agitations, the Chief Minister said that it was not advisable to hold the IPL in Chennai.The IPL cricket tournament is scheduled to be held at various locations including Chennai, from 3rd April to 26th May.
