Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa has sought the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure Karnataka releases water in the River Cauvery as per the final award of the interstate river tribunal. In a letter to the Prime Minister, she has said there is a shortfall of 27.55 TMC water to be released to Tamil Nadu by the upper riparian state till the end of August this year. <br/><br/>Water storage in the Stanley Reservoir at Mettur is only 50.55 TMC and to save the "Samba" crop in the Cauvery Delta districts, water supply has to be ensured till January next year, she has said in the letter. She has also sought the formation of Cauvery Management Board and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee as stipulated in the tribunal award.
