Jayalalithaa files defamation case against Subramanian Swamy

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has filed a defamation case against BJP leader Subramanian Swamy at the Chennai District Principal Sessions Court. The issue concerns Mr. Swamy's interview to a newspaper in which he has accused Chief Minister Jayalalithaa of trying to manipulate the fishermen issue only for gaining political mileage but had not done anything for the benefit of the fishermen. In the interview he said that he had advocated fishermen's cause to the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The interview had carried statements from Mr.Swamy that the issue was that of the boat owners who were forcing the fishermen to cross over the international waters. Mr.Swamy had also stated that the Srilankan President had told him that the boats belonged to former Union Minister T.R.Baalu and Jayalalithaa's aide Sasikala. A case has been registered against Subramanian Swamy under section 499 and against the editor and printer of the article Mr.Krishnamoorthy.A Case has also been registered against the Publisher Lakshmipathy of Dinamalar, a regional newspaper for publishing defamatory material.
