Jayalalithaa assumes charge as TN CM

The newly sworn in Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Ms. Jayalalithaa today assumed charge at Fort St.George and signed files on implementation of seven electoral promises including providing 20 kg of rice to all ration card holders free of cost. Among the other schemes for which the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister gave the nod include hike in the marriage assistance of unmarried poor women from 25,000 to 50 thousand in addition to four gm gold for the wedlock.Later speaking to newsmen Ms. Jayalalithaa said that a separate ministry will be formed to expedite the implementation of welfare schemes in the State. Replying to questions about her visit to Delhi, the Chief Minister said that she would be meeting the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. She said that prices of essential commodities will be controlled and law and order will be restored in the State and promised to bring the state of Tamil Nadu to the frontline.
