The Tamilnadu Chief Minister Ms.J.Jayalalitha has requested Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh to urgently convene the meeting of the Cauvery River Authority.In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister today, Ms.Jayalalithaa brought out the need for the urgent meeting since the farmers in the Cauvery Delta who lost the Kuruvai crop are hoping to raise atleast one single samba crop for their livelihood.She appealed to Dr.Singh to advise the Karnataka Government to release water for the benefit of the farmers.Ms.Jayalalithaa said that it was imperative that Karnataka should be advised to release water to make good the shortfall quantity as per the distress sharing formula and also to share the flows in this distress situation.
