AIADMK supremo J Jayalalitha’s lawyers filed an appeal before the Karnataka High court today, seeking bail for their client convicted in the disproportionate asset case.
The appeal was filed with the High Court Registrar in the morning with the prayer that the sentence of the special court be suspended and bail granted to her.
The case is likely to be argued by renowned lawyer Ram Jethmalani and will probably be taken up by the vacation bench tomorrow.
Jayalalitha was sentenced to four years imprisonment and a fine of 100 crore rupees for amassing disproportionate assets of over Rs 66 crore beyond her source of income.
Meanwhile, Jayalalitha complained of discomfort today and a doctor from a private hospital was called to check her health in the central jail.
