Jayalalitha orders Judicial probe in killing of 6 people during police firing in Tamil Nadu

In Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister Ms Jayalalitha ordered a Judicial probe into the killing of 6 people during the police firing at Paramakudi in Ramanthapuram district yesterday.Replying to the Calling Attention Motion on this issue in the Assembly today, she said that a commission under a retired judge will probe this incident. Describing the situation that led to the firing, the Chief Minister stated that the firing was made in self-defense as well as to protect public property. She also said that adequate compensation will be given to the families of the deceased. She appealed to the people, to maintain peace.Meanwhile, the police said that the situation is now under control. The security arrangement in and around Ramanthapuram district has been tightened. Our correspondent adds that the district is under prohibitory order for the second consecutive day, which will continue till further orders.
