Jaya Bachchan files RS nomination

In Uttar Pradesh, former Member of upper house of the Parliament Jaya Bachchan today file her nomination papers for biennial elections for Rajya Sabha as Samajwadi Party nominee in the presence of Chief Minister Akhilesh yadav. She had been Rajya Sabha member as party nominee earlier.AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that five candidates from the ruling Samajwadi Party including Naresh Agrawal, Brij Bhushan Tiwari, Kironmoy Nanda, Darshan Singh Yadav and Munavvar Saleem have already filed their nominations on Friday. Election for 10 seats is being held in the state for Rajya Sabha and notification was issued on 12th of this month. Term of sitting members expires on April 2. March 19 is last date for nominations.Bahujan Samaj Party president and outgoing Chief Minister Mayawati and sitting MP Munquad Ali have already filed nominations as BSP nominees while Congress has fielded former Minister Rashid Masood as its nominee. Mr. Masood had joined the party last year resigning from Samajwadi Party. The Bharatiya Janata Party sitting MP Vinay Katiyar also filed nominations today.At present, five of the 10 Rajya Sabha seats which are falling vacant are held by the outgoing ruling party Bahujan Samaj Party, while two each are held by Samajwadi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party and one by the Rashtriya Lok Dal. The Rajya Sabha members from the state who are going to retire on April 2 next are Pramod Kureel, Munquad Ali, Jai Prakash, Ganga Charan Rajput, and Naresh Agarwal (all BSP), Mahendra Mohan Gupta and Veerpal Singh Yadav (both SP); Kalraj Mishra and Vinay Katiyar both BJP and Mahmood Asad Madni RLD.Of them Kalraj Mishra has been elected to the state assembly in just concluded elections while Samajwadi Party has renominated Naresh Agarwal for Upper House elections.
