Tamil Nadu chief minister J.Jayalalithaa has sought an early decision by the Centre on the location of the proposed All India Institute of Medical Sciences-AIIMS in Tamil Nadu. In the 2015-16 Union Budget it was announced that AIIMS-like medical institutes will be established in various states including Tamil Nadu. As a follow up, a central team inspected five locations in the state to finalize the place for the medical institution from April 22nd to 25th last year.<br/><br/>They included Sengipatti in Thanjavur District, Chengalpattu, Pudukottai, Perundurai in Erode District and Thoppur near Madurai. The land for the project has been identified by the state government.<br/><br/>However, Ms Jayalalitha in a letter written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said, a formal decision on the location for the prestigious project is yet to be made by the Union Health Ministry and has asked to expedite it. She has also asked to ensure that the works on construction of AIIMS is initiated without any further delay.
