Jaya ask PM to convene meet on Cauvery

AIADMK chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to convene a meeting of the Cauvery River Water Authority (CRWA) to discuss key issues on the Cauvery water row involving Karnataka.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, copies of which were released to the media in Chennai, she said the last meeting of the CRWA was held nine years ago and its meeting was long overdue.

Jayalalithaa said the Karnataka Government was not ensuring the flows in the Cauvery as per the monthly pattern prescribed in the interim order in force or as per the February 5, 2007, final order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal in the crucial months of June to September.

The Chief Minister said Karnataka was releasing water only when there was a surplus thereby affecting short term crop very badly and also causes a delay in the cultivation of the long term crop in the state.
