Union Sports Minister Ajay Makan today said that Jawahar Lal Nehru, JLN Stadium situated in New Delhi will be developed as the new football hub in the country. All India Football Federation, AIFF can now hosts international and domestic tournaments in the stadium which was renovated last year to host the Commonwealth Games. An agreement in this regard was signed between the Sports Authority of India, SAI and AIFF in the presence of Union sports minister today. AIFF will also re-lay a brand new football turf on the main pitch costing about 25 lakh rupees.Talking to reporters Mr. Makan said that his ministry has also given 'in principle' approval for hosting the South Asian Football Federation Championships in the JLN stadium scheduled to be held in December. He added that the government is committed to boost the sports culture in the country and these initiatives will play a vital role in reviving football in the region. Mr. Makan also said that the government will launch a nationwide 'Come and Play Schemes' from the 9th of this month after its successful implementation in the national capital.
