‘Jawahar Thayankari,' the snakeboat captained by Joseph Philip and owned by Kumarakom town boat club won the prestigious Nehru trophy in the 58th Nehru trophy boat race at the Punnamada lake at Alappuzha in Kerala. `Payippad Chundan' of UBC Kainakari, captained by Amrita Prasad came second followed by `Sree Ganeshan' owned by Karumadikkuttan boat club with Mathew Kuncheriya as captain. In the `Iruttukuthi' (Grade-B) event, the snake boat `St.Sebastian' won the first prize, while `SreeGuruvayoorappan' came second. In the small boat category, `Vilangadan' came first, followed by `Kadappu Paramban.'
