Union Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Forests Mr. Prakash Javadekar has stressed the need to create innovation-based society as innovation and knowledge are the important factors for ensuring sustainable development and prosperity of our nation. He was speaking on Research for Innovation in Education on the second day of the three-day International Conference on Research for Resurgence organized by the Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal at Visvesaraya National Institute of Technology in Nagpur today.<br/><br/>Mr. Javadekar termed education as a key enabler and said that the quality of education matters the most. Innovation is a process of rebellion which challenges the existing state of affairs in the field and then brings out new knowledge through the research. Therefore, the curiosity and inquisitiveness should be promoted amongst the students and they should be allowed to ponder and think out of the box in order to boost innovation, he said.<br/><br/>The Minister further called for making the learning process interesting, conducive and fruitful interaction between the teacher and students, expansion of sensitivity and motivation and adoption of the new technology for spreading the information and knowledge at a faster pace. The strengthening and expansion of our education system in order to make it more research-oriented, inclusive and all-encompassing would ensure prosperity for our country and would also help to emerge it as a superpower at the global level, he added.<br/><br/>The Stockholm Water Prize-winner Senior Specialist Dr. Madhav Chitale, who talked on The Role of Society in Innovation in Education, impressed upon the august gathering that the ecological research is now on the horizon of knowledge. He dwelt upon importance of peoples' participation in observational sciences and said it could also lead to innovations. <br/><br/>This could be complementary to the laboratory-based physical and mathematical modelling largely used for analysis of the issues at present, he said. Vice Chancellor of Kavikulguru Kalidas Sanskrit University at Ramtek near Nagpur Dr. Uma Vaidya and Dr. Satyawan Meshram of Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal were also present on the dais on this occasion.
