Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar today launched a nationwide Vidya-Veerta Abhiyan to encourage Universities to display portraits of Param Veer Chakra decorated soldiers. The idea of this Abhiyan is to instill sense of patriotism and nationalism among students.<br/><br/>The Minister unveiled the portraits of Param Veer Chakra decorated soldiers at a function in New Delhi. Mr Javadekar said, the universities and colleges across the country will build Wall of Heroes. He said, the wall will have portraits of 21 Param Veer Chakra recipients that will inspire students and encourage patriotism. Mr Javadekar said, the wall will be built on contributory funding by students and teachers.<br/><br/>Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre, Param Veer Chakra recipients Rifleman Sanjay Kumar and Grenadier Yogender Singh Yadav also attended the function. Mr Bhamre said, one thousand universities and colleges across the country will display portraits of Param Veer Chakra-decorated soldiers.<br/><br/>On the occasion, Vice Chancellors from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University, Jamia Milia Islamia, Jammu and IIT Delhi received the portraits from the Minister to put it in their educational institutions. The initiative came in the wake of demand by the ex-servicemen that portraits of martyrs and tanks used in wars should be put on display in the campus.
