In Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court has issued stern directives to the Centre, the state government and the Railway Board to clear the tracks immediately and ensure restoration of rail services disrupted for the last 14 days on Lucknow Delhi rail route due to Jat community agitation. The special bench of the court comprising Justice Uma Nath Singh and Justice V.K. Dixit issued the directive to the Union Cabinet Secretary, state Home secretary, Director General of Police and Chairman Railway board and sought the reports on the problems faced by the people. Chief Justice F.I. Rebello took suo motto cognizance of the issue and constituted a two-judge bench in Lucknow to initiate suitable action. The judges rapped the state government for its indifference and apathy towards the inconvenience being caused to thousands of rail passengers on account of the cancellation and diversion of several important trains. The court has fixed 23rd of this month for hearing the case. In a separate order, a division bench of the Allahabad High Court comprising Justice Imtiyaz Murtaza and Justice S S Tiwari has directed the DGP of the state to take immediate steps to clear the railway tracks across the state blocked due to the Jat agitation. The order was passed on a Public Interest Litigation. The court also directed the DGP to register FIRs against persons involved in violence, arson and disruption of rail traffic and appraise the court about action taken against such elements. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that the Jat agitators were sitting on a dharna at Kafurpur railway station in Jyotiba Phule Nagar since March 5 throwing the rail services out of gear. They are demanding reservation in central services under OBC quota. State cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh has said that there was little that state government could do to resolve the crisis as the agitators' demand was not within the authority of it. Talking to media persons at Lucknow he has said state government will surely abide by the order of the high court and do whatever is within its means to carry it out. He said that Chief Minister Mayawati has also written a letter to the home minister for early solution of the issue. He blamed the Centre for not informing the state government the details about their talks with the Jat leaders on three occasions.
