Jaswant Singh to be NDA's Vice Presidential candidate

Mr. Jaswant Singh will be the NDA Candidate for the Vice Presidential poll. A decision to this effect was taken unanimously in the meeting of the combine in New Delhi today. After the meeting of the NDA partners, the working Chairman of the Combine, L.K.Advani said that the NDA will also seek support of parties like AIADMK, BJD and others in support of Mr. Jaswant Singh. He did not rule out talking to UPA ally TMC on the matter. The nominated NDA Candidate, Mr. Jaswant Singh later said that he will reach out to the non-NDA parties to seek their support.

The ruling UPA has fielded Mr. Hamid Ansari for the poll. He is contesting the elections for the second time. CPIM and Forward Bloc today declared their support for incumbent Hamid Ansari in the Vice-Presidential poll but RSP has decided to abstain. CPI will take a decision on the issue on Wednesday.

Sixteen nominations have been filed till today for the Vice Presidential election, 2012. According to the returning officer and the Secretary General of the Lok Sabha T K Vishvanthan, two nomination papers have been rejected so far as they have not submitted certified copy of the entry relating to the candidate in the electoral roll.
