The Andaman and Nicobar police today registered an FIR against those allegedly involved in the filming of the video on exploitation of Jarawa women.
The Director General of Police S B Deol said, the video was shot by unknown persons on Andaman Trunk Road by enticing the Jarawa women and children in violation of law.
He also denied reports in the media, alleging that a policeman had ordered Jarawa women to dance in front of tourists. He said close examination of the video clippings telecast by TV channels revealed that the person in camouflaged uniform was not a police man.
According to the FIR filed under Protection of Aboriginal tribes Regulation (PAT) and SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, several offences were committed in the filming, creation, distribution and transmission of the video clipping. Further investigation is in progress to detect the persons involved in the heinous crime.
During the last five years, the Andaman and Nicobar police had arrested more than 1000 persons for having illegally interacted with the Jarawa Tribe.
