In Japan, a stress test would be conducted on all nuclear plants to check their resilience following the crisis at the tsunami-hit Fukushima Daiichi plant. The Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Banri Kaieda announced this today and also assured to secure enough electricity supplies for the peak usage during the summer months. Only 19 of Japan's 54 reactors are now operating, and more plants are due to shut down for regular checks, forcing companies and citizens to save power.A 9.0 magnitude earthquake and a tsunami on March 11 crippled the cooling systems of the Fukushima Daiichi plant on Japan's nation's northeast coast, triggering reactor meltdowns. The Nuclear plant had spread radioactive materials into the air, soil and sea in the worst nuclear accident since Chernobyl in 1986.
