Japan Open: Sindhu exits; Jayaram, Prannoy & Srikanth in qfs

India's PV Sindhu today made a shock exit from the Japan Open Super Series Badminton tournament in Tokyo. In the Women's Singles pre-quarterfinals, eighth seed Sindhu was stunned by local girl, Akane Yamaguchi in straight games, 6-21, 17-21. Sindhu was spearheading the Indian challenge in this tournament, in the absence of ace shuttlers, Saina Nehwal and P. Kashyap. World No. 10 Sindhu was playing her first international tournament, after winning the prestigious bronze medal at the World Championships in China.Meanwhile, 3 Indian shuttlers today sailed into the Men's Singles quarterfinals. Ajay Jayaram defeated Japan's Yuchi Ikeda, 21-13, 11-21, 21-18. H S Prannoy edged past Jan Jorgensen of Denmark, 21-14, 13-21, 21-17, while Srikanth K. brushed aside Japan's Kazuteru Kozai, 21-12, 21-16. Anand Pawar is yet to play his pre-quarterfinal match against top seed Malaysia's Chong Wei Lee today.However in the Men's Doubles, the Indian duo of Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy B. today crashed out of the tournament.
