Japan open: Saina storms into quarters of women's singles

India's ace shuttler Saina Nehwal today stormed into the quarter-finals of the women's singles event of the Japan Open Badminton tournament in Tokyo. World Number 4, Saina defeated Fu Mingtian of Singapore 21-17, 21-16, a short while ago, to make it to the last eight.Meanwhile, the Indian duo of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa made an exit from the Women's Doubles competition. They lost to the Korean pair of Ha Jung-eun and Min Jung Kim, 21-9, 18-21, 24-22, in the pre-quarter-finals today.India's Ajay Jayaram, Parupalli Kashyap and the Indian pair of Jwala Gutta and V. Diju are scheduled to play their respective pre-quarterfinal matches today. In Men's Singles, while Ajay Jayaram will face Simon Santoso of Indonesia, Parupalli Kashyap will take on the sixth seed Chen Jin of China. In the mixed doubles event, V. Diju and Jwala Gutta will play the duo of Chinese Taipei, Chen Hung Ling and Cheng Wen-hsing.
