Japan Open: Prannoy, Srikanth & Jayaram to play in Quarters today

In the Japan Open Super Series Badminton Tournament, Indian shuttlers H S Prannoy, K Srikanth and Ajay Jayaram have advanced to the quarter-finals of the Men's Singles event after winning their respective second round games in Tokyo. In today's fixtures, H S Prannoy will take on Goa Huan of China while K Srikanth will clash with Japan's Kenichi Tago and Ajay Jayaram will face Tien Minh Nguyen of Veitnam. In second round matches yesterday Prannoy defeated Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark 21-14, 13-21, 21-17 while Srikanth beat Japanese Kazuteru Kozai 21-12 21-16. Jayaram made a hard fought win over another Japanese qualifier Yuichi Ikeda 21-13, 11-21, 21-18. However, another Indian in the fray, Anand Pawar went down tamely to world number one Chong Wei Lee of Malaysia 21-12 21-16. India's Men's doubles pair of Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy lost to the combo of fourth seeded Chinese Xiaolong Liu and Zihan Qiu 17-21 16-21. In the Women's Singles, PV Sindhu was handed a surprise second round defeat by Japanese qualifier Akane Yamaguchi 6-21 17-21.
