Japan extends Rs.2557 crore loan for three Indian projects

Japan will provide an assistance of 2,557 crore rupees to India for three projects, including cleaning river Yamuna in the national capital. The other two projects for which the soft loans will be provided are Himachal Pradesh Crop Diversification Promotion Project and Tamil Nadu Biodiversity Conservation and Greening Project.An official statement issued in New Delhi on Thursday said under the Yamuna Action Plan Project for the Third Phase, the loan would be used to improve the water quality of river Yamuna by augmenting sewage treatment capacity with renovation, rehabilitation and replacement of the existing sewerage system. The fund would also be used for implementing public outreach activities in Delhi, thereby contributing to the improvement of public health conditions of its inhabitants.The objective behind the loan for the Himachal Pradesh project is to promote sustainable crop diversification in the state by development and rehabilitation of minor irrigation facilities and access farm roads.The Finance Ministry further said under the Tamil Nadu Biodiversity Conservation and Greening Project, the assistance has been given for improving ecosystem and tree plantation outside the recorded forest areas.
