The leaders of Japan and Canada have confirmed their close cooperation in response to last week's nuclear test by North Korea. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe spoke to his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau by phone today at Canada's request. They agreed to seek a new sanctions resolution at the UN Security Council, as well as to consider unilateral sanctions. Abe said the pace of North Korea's tests is accelerating. He said a different level of threat requires a different response. <br/><br/>Trudeau agreed that Pyongyang's nuclear tests are a direct threat to regional and global peace and security. He added it is necessary to closely work with Japan to take concrete measures to denuclearize North Korea.
