Japan calls on China to release jailed Nobel Peace Prize winner

Japan has called on China to release the jailed Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Liu Xiaobo, in a move which experts say could further strain Sino-Japanese ties. The Japanese Prime Minister, Naoto Kan, told Parliament in Tokyo, it will be desirable for Mr Liu, a human rights activist, to be freed. His comments came as Japanese diplomats work to mend relations with Beijing following a maritime dispute.
