Japan-B'desh launch new partnership agreement; Tokyo to up aid by $ 6bn

Bangladesh and Japan have launched the 'Japan-Bangladesh Comprehensive Partnership Agreement' taking the relationship between the two countries to a new height. The new Partnership Agreement was signed during a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Japanese counterpart in Tokyo on Monday. Foreign Ministry sources say that the modalities of the partnership will be worked on at the earliest. Both countries have agreed to strengthen policy dialogue to deepen their co-operation in an evolving global security environment. Japanese PM Shinzo Abe has also agreed to send experts to establish a Peace Building Centre in Dhaka. Japan has announced its committment to provide an additional financial assistance of 600 billon yen equivalent to 6 billion dollars within the next five years. Sheikh Hasina has been on a four-day official tour to Japan since May 25th, her first since taking over as PM in January this year.
