Aam Aadmi Party today said, its proposed Jan Lokpal Bill is Constitutional and it will be brought before the Delhi Assembly. Talking to a news agency in New Delhi, Party spokesperson Ashutosh said, his party is well within its rights to pass the Bill. He was responding to a query on Solicitor General Mohan Parasaran legal opinion that the Jan Lokpal Bill is unconstitutional as it has not been referred to the Centre. Mr. Ashutosh said, there can be divergence of opinion on legal issues, but in Delhi government's view, there is no unconstitutionality in the Bill.
He also questioned, how the communication between the Lt Governor and Solicitor General got leaked to media.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari said, if there is a legal or Constitutional provision, it needs to be observed and followed. Mr. Tewari said, the Aam Aadmi Party Government is also bound by the oath it took under the Constitution.
Meanwhile, Delhi Unit of Congress is holding a meeting with the Lt Governor this afternoon to convey the party's view on currrent political situation in the city. The delegation led by Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Arvinder Singh comprises Congress Legislature Party leader Haroon Yusuf, all MLAs and some senior leaders.
Our Correspondent reports that earlier this week, Mr. Arvinder Singh had said that the Congress would not support the Jan Lokpal Bill of the Aam Aadmi Party as it is not in conformity with the Constitutional provisions. He had also said that the party would request the Lt Governor not to give his assent to the introduction of the Bill in the Assembly.
