Jammu under maximum alert ahead of Republic Day

In Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu city has been placed under maximum alert and the state's borders with Punjab have been sealed to prevent entry of BJP activists bent upon hoisting the national flag in Srinagar on Republic Day. State government had on January 20 said that it will not allow flag hoisting at Lal Chowk or permit any other programme which disturbs peace in the state. AIR, Jammu Correspondent, R.K.Raina, who visited various markets and areas of Jammu city and its outskirts saw police personnel have been deployed and barricades set up at many places in the City. Meanwhile, State BJP leaders has reiterated to go ahead with its flag hoisting programme at Lal Chowk . However it has made a slight change in the schedule of the Yatra launched by its youth wing. The Yatra which was to enter Jammu and Kashmir from Lakhanpur on tomorrow morning will now enter the State on Tuesday from Madhopur in Punjab where a rally will be held by the party.
