In Jammu and Kashmir, the 270-kilometre long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), the only all weather surface link that connects Kashmir valley with rest of the country has been closed for the vehicular traffic amidst heavy overnight rains. AIR correspondent reports that the vehicular traffic on the National Highway has been temporarily suspended due to multiple landslides triggered by overnight heavy rains in Ramban Sector. Due to overnight rains, multiple landslides and shooting stones have been triggered at many places in Ramban sector since early morning. However, no vehicles are stranded on the national highway in Ramban stretch as all the stranded vehicles were cleared last night. The work of clearing the National Highway has begun and the debris clearance operations are continuing on a war footing, but continued shooting stones are hampering the National Highway restoration work. However, the 27th batch of Amarnath Yatris comprising 1,147 Yatris in a convey of 42 vehicles, which started from Yatri Bhawan, Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu in the wee hours today, has been stopped at Yatri Bhawan, Chanderkote in Ramban due to the closure of the National Highway. The fresh batch of 476 pilgrims heading for Baltal were the first to leave the Jammu base camp in 18 vehicles, followed by the 2nd convoy of 24 vehicles carrying 671 pilgrims for Pahalgam. These Yatris includes 300 women, 22 Sadhus, two Sadhvis and one child.
