Jammu faces Central University Morcha-led bandh

A bandh is being observed in Jammu city today on the call given by Jammu Central University Morcha (JCUM)- an amalgam of eight organisations, over the demand of appointing local Vice-Chancellor for the Central University, Jammu. It is pertinent to mention here that there are reports that former Vice Chancellor of Jammu University, Prof. Amitabh Mattoo is going to be appointed as first Vice Chancellor of Central University.<br/><br/>Although the Government is yet to appoint Vice-Chancellor for the newly established Central University in Jammu, Jammu Province Peoples Forum-an amalgam of traders, advocates, transporters have alleged that it will be sheer discrimination with the Jammu region if an outsider and non-Dogra is appointed as Vice Chancellor of Jammu Central University. Meanwhile, the bandh call has affected normal life in Jammu city as all the shops and business establishments are closed and public transport is off the roads. There is thin attendance in Government offices and most of the educational institutions are closed today. However, inter district transport services are plying normally. No untoward incident has been reported so far from any part of Jammu city.
