S.I. Jamir has been elected as the new president of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee. He defeated I. Imkong by 50 votes to 29 at the polling held in Kohima to elect the office bearers of the committee. After a series of violence marring the poll and amidst tight security, the polling was held on Wednesday in the presence of DONER Minister BK Handique and AICC election observer Anand Prasad Sethi. The polls were conducted in the backdrop of tense situation prevailing in the follow up to the polls with unidentified miscreants damaging the congress building in the wee hours this morning. Sporadic firings of gunshots were also reported from nearby the polling site. Police sources told AIR Kohima that several rounds of gunshots were also fired by unidentified miscreants at around eleven this morning in D Block colony and near Kohima local ground area injuring a civilian.
