<span style="color: #222222;">Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has written to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and sought intervention to ensure expeditious implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in the State. &nbsp;<br />''<br />''The mission aims to improve the lives of people by providing safe drinking water to every rural household through functional household tap connections by 2024. &nbsp;<br />''<br />''Mr Shekhawat said that the State's commitment to provide piped water supply to every household will bring an end to the drudgery endured by women and girls in rural areas. &nbsp;<br />''<br />''He expressed optimism that time-bound implementation of &nbsp;the mission &nbsp;will ensure rural people will get potable water in adequate quantity and Center is committed to provide all assistance to the State Government to achieve this goal.<br />''<br />''The Minister highlighted that in 2019-20, very few household in the State were provided with tap connections against the target of 13.86 lakh households and raised his concerns over the matter.<br />''<br />''It was mentioned that in 2019-20, Tamil Nadu was allocated around 374 Crore rupees to provide tap connections to 13.86 lakh households and over 373 crore rupees was released.<br />''<br />''However, the State could utilize only over 114 crore rupees &nbsp;at the end of March this year.<br />''<br />''Mr. Shekhawat while mentioning that providing potable water in every rural household is a national priority, said the fund allocation to Tamil Nadu has been increased to over 917 Crore rupees during 2020-21. &nbsp;<br />''<br />''In view of the unsatisfactory output in terms of number of &nbsp;functional household tap connections provided during 2019-20 and low utilization of funds, the Minister urged the Chief Minister to review the planning and implementation of water supply schemes in the State, and also to focus on the already existing Piped Water Supply schemes.</span><br />
