Jaitley terms returning of Awards a case of ideological intolerance

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has questioned the returning of Sahitya Academy Awards by some eminent writers and termed it a case of ideological intolerance. In a Facebook post, Mr. Jaitley said, there are large number of writers with left or Nehruvian leaning who have been recognized by the Government in the past and many of them have spoken out against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi even when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. He said, how many of them protested or raised their voice during the emergency and 1984 anti-sikh riots.

Mr Jaitley said, after the NDA Government was sworn in, those who had enjoyed the patronage under the earlier establishment, have obviously been uncomfortable with the present regime. He said, this discomfort has been furthered by another political reality as the Congress is showing no signs of revival and the Left is also being increasingly pushed to the margin.

Mr Jaitley said, in the present situation, the new strategy of anti-Modi, anti-BJP sections appears to be to resort to politics by other means and the easiest way is to manufacture a crisis. The Minister said the death by lynching of a member of minority community at Dadri was extremely unfortunate and condemnable. He said, no right thinking person can ever rationalise such an action as these incidents bring a bad name to the country.
