Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said that he still wants to implement a new goods and services tax, GST by 1st of April next year although political obstruction by the Opposition Congress party could delay the process. Addressing the Economist summit in New Delhi today, Mr Jaitley said, GST is now being supported by almost everybody and it is only a matter of time before it is passed.

He said, if this kind of obstructionism remains then perhaps Congress may succeed in hurting India's economy and allowing it to derail for some time. The Minister said, the current global economic situation presented an opportunity for India and it is important to stay on the path of reform and build momentum to achieve a higher level of growth.
