Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said that, he as defence minister in June 2014 had put the Augusta Westland chopper deal on hold and not the Congress. Speaking to news reporters at Frankfurt yesterday, Mr. Jaitley asserted that the Italian firm was also subsequently barred from any future contract in the month of July. He said, the NDA government, has no political motive except to identify the beneficiaries of the kickbacks received in award of the helicopter contract.<br/><br/>Noting that defence procurement decisions were influenced by extraneous factors, he said bribe givers have been identified and convicted in Italy, and now the beneficiaries of the bribes in India have to be identified. Mr.Jaitley had held additional charge of Ministry of Defence from May 2014 till early November 2014.
