Jairam Ramesh speaks hard about critically polluted clusters

The Environment Minister Mr. Jairam Ramesh has said that approval should not be given for the setting up of any new industry in the critically polluted clusters . The permission should be granted only if pollution control measures in these clusters are taken on large scale. Opening a workshop on comprehensive environment index for industrial clusters in New Delhi, Mr. Ramesh said that impact of industrial pollution on the environmental and public health should not be overlooked. Mr. Ramesh also released a comprehensive environmental assessment of industrial clusters, which shows that 88 clusters in the country are critically polluted. He hoped that a fund for cleaning up these clusters and formation of National Green Tribunal would be approved by the parliament in next budget session. AIR corerspondent says that Agra and Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh , Ahmedabad and Ankleshwar in Gujarat, Angul Talcher in Orissa, Asansole in West Bengal, Aurangabad in Maharashtra, Bada Jamtada in Jharkhand, Baddi Himachal Pradesh & Batla in Punjab are among the top ten critically polluted clusters.
