Jairam opposes construction of Renuka Dam

Opposing the construction of Renuka Dam project in Hamachal Pradesh, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said that water distribution in Delhi should be evenly balanced to meet the needs of the residents. He said trees should not be cut in the hilly state on the excuse of 'seasonal water crisis' in the city. He urged Delhi government to streamline the water supply in the National Capital. Mr Ramesh also said that he would not allow the submersion of about eight hundred acres of forest land that is bound to happen with the construction of the dam.
