Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh has assured full cooperation to Kerala Government in the implementation of rural employment, road connectivity and housing schemes in the state. According to an official release, this assurance was given by Mr Ramesh to Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy who called on him in New Delhi on Wednesday. The visiting Chief Minister sought the cooperation of the ministry in fast tracking the financial support for the construction rural roads in Kerala sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. Mr Ramesh said the proposal would be examined by the Ministry. A delegation led by Mr Chandy also made a request to include additional activities such as dairy farming, livelihood, houses and toilets in the ambit of works permissible under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. Mr. Ramesh told Mr. Oomen Chandy that convergence has already been made under Mahatma Gandhi NREGA, INDIRA AWAS YOJANA (IAY) and Total Sanitation Campaign(TSC) towards this end.
