Jaipur Oil Depot fire still on; death toll touches 11; Committee formed to probe mishap

In Rajasthan,the death toll in Indian Oil Corporation depot fire has risen to eleven with one more person succumbing to his injuries in hospital last night. 27 injured people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals out of which condition of one person is serious. Flames and smoke are still coming out of four oil tanks in the depot . Fuel in another eight tanks has burnt out. The covers of two tanks in the depot blew off in a blast during last night due to which some barrels in the depot caught fire.<br/><br/> Meanwhile,the life in fire affected Sitapura area is returning to normal with strict administration allowing to resume commercial activities in selected sectors of Sitapura Industrial Area and Special Economic Zone. The Chief Minister of Rajashtan Mr. Ashok Gehlot today reviewed the situation at a high level meeting. Issues like re-opening of factories in Sitapura and SEZ, relief measures and survey of losses were discussed in the meeting.<br/><br/><br/>The enquiry committee set up to probe into the IOC depot fire in Sitapura near Jaipur will give its report in sixty days. The Chairman of the committee Mr. Mahesh B. Lal, who arrived in Jaipur to conduct the enquiry, told reporters that he will meet IOC and RIICO officers and the victims of the mishap. The committee will not only look into the reasons of the fire but will also suggest remedial measures to avert such incidents. Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Government has announced a relief package for the Industries affected by the fire. Recovery of VAT has been deferred up to March 2010 and service tax and fire service tax has been completely waived off. A top up loan up to ten lakh rupees will be sanctioned to those who have taken loan from Rajasthan Financial Corporation and RIICO. Meanwhile the administration is still waiting for the fire in three tanks of IOC depot to burn. Commercial activities resumed today in the selected sectors of nearby Sitapura Industrial Area and SEZ. Electricity which was cut as a safety measure has also been restored in the areas found to be safe by the administration.
