The Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy said that he is in favour of renewing the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM)after it terminates in 2012. <br/><br/>Speaking in a Conference on Infrastructure in Bangalore today, the Minister said the Mission has contributed significantly to the GDP through infrastructure development. I am for restarting NURM to benefit Tier II cities also. <br/><br/>Instead of 10 lakh, those cities with more than five lakh population should be included. This will enable inclusion of 28 more cities to the existing 65 cities availing the benefit of JNURM, he added. <br/><br/>The Minister also informed that Group of Ministers has submitted its report on land Acquisition Policy and Cabinet will take it up shortly. <br/><br/>The main features of the recommendation, he noted, were that a minimum compensation for land acquisition should be fixed. <br/><br/>The guidance value of the land should be considered to fix the compensation by adding another 60% to it. He also said that the organized sector, when acquiring land, should also make provision for providing jobs to those who lost their land.
