Jail term with fine for indecent representation of women through Email/MMS

Indecent representation of women on internet, emails and multi-media messaging could now land a person in jail.

Sharing obscene videos online or through multimedia messaging services, MMS may soon attract a prison term up to seven years and a maximum fine of 5,00,000 rupee.

The Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh yesterday gave its approval to amend the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, IRWA, 1986 and broaden its scope.
