Jagmohan Dalmiya takes over as interim BCCI Chief, says cleansing game of cricket his top priority

The interim BCCI Chief Mr Jagmohan Dalmiya has said, he has to prove to the cricket fraternity that cricket is a clean sport and win their confidence back. He said, the need of the hour is to cleanse the game, which is now his top priority.

Dalmiya was talking to reporters in Kolkata after the Board of Control for Cricket in India emergent working committee meeting in Chennai.

N Srinivasan stepped aside under a compromise formula that brought back former Chief Jagmohan Dalmiya as the head of a four-member interim arrangement to run the Board.

The move comes more than a fortnight after a spot-fixing scandal rocked the 6th Indian Premier League. Srinivasan's son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan is under arrest for his alleged role in spot fixing.

Senior BJP leader and BCCI Vice President Arun Jaitley said that the Working Committee of the Board decided that Dalmiya will conduct its day-to-day operations till the probe is completed.

Mr Jaitely said N Srinivasan will maintain an arm's length distance from the probe against his son-in-law.

Meanwhile, Secretary Jagdale and Treasurer Ajay Shirke have refused to withdraw their resignations. The board meeting had urged them to rethink their decision and get back to the Board in 24 hours.
