J K Assembly adjourned on issue of NC worker’s alleged custodial death

The Jammu and Kashmir assembly was today adjourned sine die amid uproar and slogan shouting on the issue of the alleged custodial death of a prominent National Conference Worker. As soon as the House met at 9.30 this morning, members of the main Opposition party PDP, stood up and stressed the need for taking up their adjournment motion, which they had re-submitted after being rejected yesterday. Waving newspapers in the House, they alleged that the government was misleading people on the issue, as no request for a Judicial Commission has been received by the state High Court.

The Law Minister presented the receipt of the state High Court in this regard and contested the Opposition claim. As the speaker asked for taking up Question Hour slogan shouting by PDP members continued. After the Speaker rejected their adjournment motion, PDP members trooped into the well of the House tearing papers and raising slogans. The plea of CPIM and National Panthers Party members to allow a discussion on the subject was also not granted by the Speaker. The House passed two bills without a discussion amid the din and the Speaker adjourned the House sine die.
