The Tamilnadu Chief Minister Ms. J. Jayalalithaa has strongly urged Prime Minister Dr, Manmohan Singh to personally intervene and immediately withdraw the Nutrient Based Subsidy Scheme (NBS) policy and reintroduce the fixed MRP policy for all fertilizers. In a letter to the Prime Minister today, the Chief Minister pointed out that with the introduction of the policy, liberty has been given to the manufacturers/ importers of chemical fertilizers to fix the MRP based on their cost of production import.
Expressing concern on the plight of the farmers who solely depend on the fertilizers, Ms. Jayalalithaa appealed to the Prime Minister to issue immediate direction to Department of Fertilizers and allocate the estimated requirement of the 30 thousand MT of DAP to the state to meet the demand for Kuruvai cultivation.
