More than two weeks after killing of veteran crime journalist Jyotirmoy Dey, the Mumbai police yesterday claimed to have cracked the case, with the arrest of 7 men. The Mumbai police have also informed that fugitive don Chhota Rajan ordered the killing. In a press conference held in Mumbai yesterday, joint commissioner of police Himanshu Roy said that the killing was ordered by Chhota Rajan and executed by Satish Kailya, a known shooter of the Rajan gang. Roy said that Kaliya is a known shooter of the Rajan gang and has worked for him earlier too. The case was solved in a joint operation by the Mumbai police crime branch's property and unit 6 cells. According to Roy, major leads for the case were provided by the informants. The accused were identified as Satish Kaliya, Anil Waghmode, Sachin Gaikwad, Abhijit Shinde, Mangesh Agawane, Nilesh Shedage and Arun Dake. Of them, Kaliya, Anil and Abhijit were picked up from Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu on 25th of June. They were arrested after they were brought to Mumbai on 26th of June. Nilesh Shedage was picked up from Solapur in Maharashtra, on 25th of June and arrested after being brought to Mumbai on 26th of June. Sachin, Mangesh and Arun were arrested in Mumbai on 26th of June. Mr Roy revealed that detention of the accused was done simultaneously to avoid any of the accused tipping off the others. All seven were produced amidst tight security in a local court yesterday, which remanded them to police custody till 4th of July. Three motorcycles, a Qualis vehicle, a US-made .32 revolver and 20 rounds of Czech-made ammunition besides 10 mobile phones and Rs 20,000 cash have been recovered from the accused. The police said the search is now on for three more people, including Rajan.
