J Dey murder case: Court extends custody of accused

A Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act -MCOCA court today remanded all the eight accused arrested in the J Dey murder case to police custody till 11th July. Earlier today, Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Himanshu Roy told reporters that the Mumbai Police had invoked the stringent provisions of MCOCA to build up a strong case against the accused. According to police, MCOCA provisions can be applied, if at least two members of an organised crime gang have at least two charge sheets registered against them. Under this act, statement of one accused can be held as evidence against another.The accused in this case include Vinod Asrani alias Vinod Chembur, a local builder and bookie, sharpshooter Satish Kalya, his associates Abhijeet Shinde, Arun Dake, Sachin Gaikwad, Anil Waghmode, Nilesh Shendge and Mangesh Agawane.Veteran crime journalist Jyotirmoy Dey was shot dead on 11th of June in the Hiranandani area of suburban Powai.
