J Dey murder: 10 named in chargesheet

Nearly six months after senior journalist J Dey was shot dead, the Mumbai Police today filed a chargesheet in the special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) Court against 10 accused. Underworld don Chhota Rajan and his aide Nayan Singh have been mentioned as absconding accused in the chargesheet. The chargesheet runs into 3,055 pages and it defines the roles played by the accused in the crime.Veteran journalist Jyotirmoy Dey was shot dead in suburban Mumbai on June 11.The Mumbai Crime Branch have arrested 11 people so far in the case.The 10 accused whose roles have been defined in the chargesheet are – close Chhota Rajan aide Paulson Joseph, who provided 11 international SIM cards to the accused; Deepak Sisodiya, who supplied .32 foreign-made revolver to Satish Kalya; Vinod Asrani alias Vinod Chembur, a bookie who allegedly helped the shooters identify Dey; sharpshooter of Chhota Rajan Gang – Rohee Thangappan Joseph alias Satish Kalya who shot Dey; and other members of the hit squad who accompanied Kalya, including Abhijeet Shinde, Arun Dake, Sachin Gaikwad, Nilesh Shendge, Mangesh Agawane and Anil Waghmode, who also did a recce of the parking lot where Dey used to park his bike.Meanwhile, the role of recently arrested accused, journalist Jigna Vora, will be elaborated in a supplementary chargesheet that will be filed later, once the Crime Branch’s investigations are concluded. Vora’s police custody ends on 5th of this month.
