IWF Executive Committee resigns on doping issue

Stung by the number of doping cases that have came to light in the last few months, the entire executive committee of Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) resigned, taking moral responsibility of the series of dope failures by the national lifters. The Federation was already under severe pressure and even faces prospects of being banned by the world governing body. A few hours after Sports Minister MS Gill asked IOA chief Suresh Kalmadi to clear the mess within the IWF, the executive committee which also included president Harbhajan Singh and secretary Balwant Raj Gulati called an emergency meeting yesterday. The entire executive committee submitted its resignation to Kalmadi who would soon reccomend for fresh elections within a month's time.
