In Qatar, a two-week international conference today discuss the controversial issue of what to do about the stockpiles of ivory from African elephants. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, CITES, will also discuss a possible ban on trading blue-fin Tuna. The US and EU back the proposal. Tanzania and Zambia will try to make a case for the legal of more than a hundred tonnes of their ivory stocks. Conservation groups are also hoping for increased protection on sharks, coral, polar bears, lizards and amphibians.
